WP start engine without Carr

Cape Town - Western Province loose forward Nizaam Carr's involvement in this year’s Currie Cup Premier Division is in doubt after undergoing arthroscopic surgery.

Carr sustained a shoulder injury during the tail-end of the Stormers' Super Rugby campaign, which was then aggravated in their 60-21 quarter-final defeat to the Chiefs at Newlands.

According toSA Rugbymag, the 25-year-old went for the shoulder procedure on Monday.

WP coach John Dobson said it's still unsure for how long Carr would be sidelined.

The uncertainty surrounding Carr's injury prompted Dobson to appoint Chris van Zyl as captain for the rest of the season

WP host the Free State Cheetahs at Newlands on Friday (17:10 kick-off).
