Cape Town - They may have turned the corner in the Currie Cup with a 34-27 win over the Sharks at Newlands on Saturday, but Western Province have been rocked by injuries as they prepare for this weekend’s trip to Johannesburg for a date with the Golden Lions.
It is now confirmed that hooker Scarra Ntubeni will be out of rugby for 6-9 months after snapping his Achilles in the 12th minute of Saturday's match. He will be undergo surgery on Wednesday.
Coach John Dobson said he was "devastated" for Ntubeni, but the injuries don’t stop there for Province.
No 8 Sikhumbuzo Notshe will also not be available for this weekend as he recovers from an ankle injury.
Notshe did not complete the match against the Sharks and while the extent of his injury is not yet known, he is certainly out of action for now.
Province will also be without Oli Kebble (hip) while Huw Jones remains a doubt.
Western Province take on the Golden Lions on Friday.
Kick-off is at 19:00.
Both the Golden Lions and WP have 12 points from four matches in this year's Currie Cup.
