Jaguares XV seal historic Currie Cup First Division win

Cape Town - The Jaguares XV claimed the Currie Cup First Division title with a hard-fought win over Griffons at the Sports Village in Potchefstroom on Friday.

The Argentinean side won 27-13 after leading 17-6 at half-time.

The Jaguares XV became the first Argentine rugby team to win a South African competition.

Following their emphatic win, Jaguares XV coach Nancho Fernandez Lobbe thanked SA Rugby for allowing them to play in the competition.

"We travelled all over the country and was privileged to play against wonderful opposition. This was a wonderful experience for us and we want to thank everyone who made this possible. We hope to be back next year," Fernandez Lobbe said.

Meanwhile, in the final of the SA Rugby Under-20 Provincial Championship, the Griffons defeated the EP Elephants 37-29, claiming their fourth title.

The EP Elephants produced a valiant fightback in the second half after trailing 22-0 at half-time.

Griffons U20 coach Jacques Juries admitted that they slipped but was very please with the win.

"We started so well and then almost let it slip in the middle part. The guys came back strongly in the end and we are very pleased with the result," Juries said.
