Cape Town - The Blue Bulls were dealt two serious injury blows on Monday when it was confirmed that wing Jade Stighling and lock Jason Jenkins would be sidelined for extended periods.
Stighling injured his ankle in the Bulls’ Currie Cup Premier Division opener against Western Province earlier this month
“Scans showed that he sustained a ligament injury to his ankle and unfortunately he will need some surgery for that. He will be out for a period of about six weeks,” team doctor Herman Rossouw said on Monday.
Jenkins sustained a knee injury in last weekend’s 43-20 defeat to the Free State Cheetahs in Bloemfontein.
“We were unfortunate to lose Jason Jenkins in the game against the Cheetahs. He had a scan this morning (Monday) which showed ligament injuries to his knee. He will be out for about four to six weeks,” said Rossouw.
There is also concern over wing Travis Ismaiel and centre Dries Swanepoel,
“Travis Ismaiel will not be able to train with the team as of this week. He will still be out for maybe a week with a chronic groin strain. Dries Swanepoel is sitting with a quad strain. A decision on his availability will only be made as of tomorrow (Tuesday),” said Rossouw.
The Bulls host the Eastern Province Kings in Pretoria on Friday (19:20 kick-off).
