Chiliboy starts at hooker for Sharks

Cape Town - Sharks coach Robert du Preez has named his team for Friday’s Currie Cup Premier Division clash against the Boland Cavaliers in Wellington on Friday.

Kick-off is scheduled for 15:00.

Du Preez made a few changes to the team that beat Griquas 46-24 in Durban last week.

In the front row, there is a rotational change of Chiliboy Ralepelle who comes into the starting line-up for Franco Marais, while Ruan Botha replaces Stephan Lewies who is carrying a niggle and has been given a rest. The loose-forward trio remains unchanged.

Among the backs, there are just two changes. Heimar Williams comes in for Lukhanyo Am who was not been considered due to injury, while veteran Odwa Ndungane returns to the wing in place of Neil Maritz.

There was no spot in the match-day squad for wing Lwazi Mvovo, who was released from the Springbok squad earlier this week.

“There are a few guys that have played a lot of rugby and who are carrying a few niggles. We have decided to rest them this week. Chiliboy comes into the starting line-up for this match, which is rotational,” said Du Preez.

“In a team set-up a coach looks for healthy competition in the squad, which starts at training. Intensity is vital. We want to improve every week. This week we are looking for improvement in our set-pieces, scrums, lineouts and execution. It is important that our forward pack gives us that stability and foundation to attack from.

“The intensity against Boland is not going to be any different to the other two matches we’ve played. They are a difficult team to play against and they have nothing to lose. We are looking forward to the challenge.”

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
