Cheetahs wait on injured Petersen

Cape Town - Free State Cheetahs wing Sergeal Petersen is in a race against time to be fit for their Currie Cup semi-final against the Golden Lions.

The Cheetahs, who finished top of the table courtesy of eight straight wins, will host the Lions in the first semi-final next Saturday (October 15, 15:00 kick-off).

Petersen injured his calf muscle against the Pumas in Nelspruit on September 23 and it caused him to miss their final league match against Griquas in Bloemfontein last weekend.

He had just returned from a knee injury sustained in their first match against Boland in Wellington on August 6.

Petersen told Netwerk24, that he is optimistic to face the Lions, but there is no pressure put on him to recover.

Other injury concerns for Free State are prop Charles Marais (knee) and lock Justin Basson (knock to the head), who are currently being monitored.

Fullback Clayton Blommetjies was unable to train due to flu but should be back on his post by Monday.
