Bulls looking to swiftly fill CEO position

Cape Town - A new CEO for the Blue Bulls Company could be announced within the next month.

Willem Strauss, president of the Blue Bulls Rugby Union, told Netwerk24 that they were satisfied with the applications they received for the role to be vacated by Barend van Graan.

The Pretoria-based union recently announced that Van Graan’s contract would expire at the end of January 2019.

Applications closed on Monday and Strauss said “good and strong” candidates had applied.

“A shortlist is being drawn up and interviews will be conducted over the next few weeks. It definitely won’t be a drawn-out process. It’s important to get continuity and stability as soon as possible.”

Earlier reports had linked former Varsity Sports CEO Duitser Bosman and Titans CEO Jacques Faul to the Bulls job.

However, both have since announced that they are not interested in applying.

Bosman wrote on Facebook earlier this week:“I decided against applying for the Bulls 'CEO' job. Personal reasons and exceptionally unique challenges, which could have a special effect in the sports world when I deduct it, brought me to this point after several discussions, deep reflection and lots of prayers.

“I believe the panel will appoint an outstanding person, who will be very successful, because our beloved game needs it.”

Faul, who is the CEO of the Titans cricket franchise, had distanced himself from the Bulls position last month, saying: “I am very happy at the Titans, and also very excited about what we are trying to do as a brand and as an internationally recognised Franchise. To that end, I have no plans to leave the Titans, despite speculation suggesting this.”

Meanwhile, Netwerk24 added that current Pumas CEO Pieter Burger and Blue Bulls high performance manager Xander Janse van Rensburg could be possible candidates for the Bulls CEO position.
