Whiteley back to captain Lions

Johannesburg - Golden Lions head coach Johan Ackermann has named his team to face the Eastern Province Kings in a Currie Cup match at Ellis Park on Saturday.

Ackermann has followed through with his rotation policy, making wholesale changes to the side which downed the Pumas in Nelspruit last weekend.

Up front, Malcolm Marx and Julian Redelinghuys will start in the front row, while MB Lusaseni is included at lock.

Most notably, Warren Whiteley returns at No 8 to captain the side. As a result, Fabian Booysen shifts to flank.

Whiteley this week returned to the Lions after failing to make the final 31-man Springbok Rugby World Cup squad.

Additionally, there have been five personnel changes to the Lions backline. Lohan Jacobs will start at scrumhalf, while Jaco van der Walt has been given an opportunity to start at flyhalf.

Anthony Volmink will start at left wing, while Ruan Combrinck shifts to right wing to make space for Andries Coetzee, who returns from injury this week at fullback. Additionally, Stokkies Hanekom will start at outside centre.

The match will get under way at 19:10.
