WP to target breakdown area

2011-08-31 19:35

Cape Town - WP forwards coach Matt Proudfoot says their clash against Griquas will be won and lost at the collision point - an area they will look to target.

Province travel to Kimberley to take on a Griquas side on a high after their comeback win against the Free State Cheetahs last weekend.

The WP coaching staff have done their homework and are confident they know what area needs to be focused on in order to get the better of the men from Kimberley.

“For us the biggest facet of the game against Griquas will be the breakdown. They are very destructive on your attacking breakdown and they lead the competition with turnover stats. That will definitely be a major battle this weekend," Proudfoot told the WP Rugby website.

He also reiterated the importance of keeping ball in hand. Griquas are very dangerous on the counter-attack, and Province want to make sure they don't fall into the same trap as the Cheetahs did last week.

“We are going to have to be forceful on our set phases and ensure we don't give away turnovers. We saw against the Cheetahs last week how dangerous they can be from turnover ball. We want to make sure we are controlling the tempo or else we could find ourselves with a mountain to climb in Kimberley," said Proudfoot.

Target the break down area hey. Like you've done in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 Wha HA HA HA JOKERS OF WORLD RUGBY

      Mike@CapeT - 2011-08-31 22:33

Jack, I understand what you are saying. I don't agree with everything that Saffa says but, there is no doubting her rugby knowledge and, I would still prefer to read her comments than read the drivel that appears on this forum. The sad thing is, I find myself responding to some of it!

      daspoort - 2011-08-31 22:59

The fact that you need to react to such an innocuous report in such an OTT manner reveals way more about your fragile emotional intelligence than is does about WP rugby. Your constant "My dog's bigger than your dog" comments are juvenile in the extreme and everybody can see it except you. You add nothing to any debate except 'volume' to make yourself heard. But shouting louder and longer than everyone else adds no gravitas or validity to the discussion or your childish opinions. It only demonstrates how vacuous you are and how little knowledge and life experience you actually possess. In short - you are such a light-weight, you reveal your shallow superficial character and sub-intelligence every time you open your mouth. You prove the wise old saying that: "It is better to keep your mouth shut and let people think you are stupid, than to open your mouth and prove it!"

  • Jack - 2011-08-31 20:26

I suppose, as is usual about articles about this particular team, we'll now be sent into zzzzz-land by that pompous windbag Saffa-Cat spouting the usual brand of platitudes dressed up as 'rugby wisdom' from a self-styled grand old uncle of the rugby fraternity. Can someone please get this tedious bore to dry up. I am sure that there are others who are also sick and tired of the low-brow, reptilian-level nonsense from this individual.

      Fasie - 2011-08-31 20:31

      Well quoted there Jack

      Fasie - 2011-08-31 20:46

@Jack Can I call u "ou Ramkat" from now on?

      Jack - 2011-08-31 20:49

Hey Fasie, as long as you don't call me a cape mountain goat!

      Fasie - 2011-08-31 21:02

@jack LOL! U know I'm kidding. Enjoy your evening

      Mike@CapeT - 2011-08-31 21:09

Jack, you have got to be some kind of p*#ck. At least Saffa talks rugby which is more than you can say for 90% of the idiots here who can only hurl insults at all and sundry and have not the slightest knowledge of rugby. In fact, it has become so tedious that I have a lost a lot of interest in even reading some of the garbage that is dished up. Talk about doesn't even figure with most of these fools......take fasie for example, is there anything in his comments above that is in the slightest bit intellegent!!!!? He just pours out the same old comments that every other troll have been pouring out for ever.....boring! Long may Saffa keep on commenting on rugby matters...she is about the only one that does!

      Fasie - 2011-08-31 21:17

@Mikie@CapeT Man, u are really in love with SAFFA. And your non-bias, non-judgemental, super intelligent rugby comments have everyone on here in awe

      Jack - 2011-08-31 21:54

@Mike. I have nothing against the team in question, and if they do well, hats off to them. Most of us are intelligent enough to give credit where credit is due. And many of us have been around long enough to realize that rugby fortunes ebb and flow, and that success often goes in cycles. The issue in my original posting is about a rugby poseur who clogs up these sites with opinions that are often crass and stupid, and which are presented in the guise of rugby knowledge. I don't begrudge anyone their opinion, or their right to air it. I'm just tired of hearing it, that's all. Give us a break, and let's hear from people who actually do know what they are talking about.

      Mike@CapeT - 2011-08-31 22:38

Sorry Jack, my response to your last comment is above....I pushed Fasie's button by sad is that!

      Fasie - 2011-08-31 22:52

@mikie LOL So u like me too

  • Hansie - 2011-08-31 20:56

WP is still the only team to win the CC 5 YEARS IN A ROW!!!!!!!!!!! This "10 years without a cup" is getting a bit old. At least WP NEVER played in the B-Section like the Sharks & Cheetahs. WP were NEVER as low down as the BB were in 2002/2003. I think they are doing bloody well for a team who lost so many players to injuries and Springboks. Oh, by the way. Who won the varsity cup the past FOUR YEARS????????

      Fasie - 2011-08-31 21:01

@hansie They did win it 5yr in a row , somewhere around the 2nd World War that was. So nobody can remember anymore. But their record of zero vodacom, zero CC, zero Super in a decade will be extremely hard to beat. Well done their outjies, quite an achievement

      Fasie - 2011-08-31 21:25

@hansie That's right, varsity cup, very good. The under-13 Bulls team won the sevens plate recently

      Chris in Oz - 2011-08-31 23:15

@Fasie. 5 Currie Cups in a row!!! Champions of world rugby.

      Fasie - 2011-08-31 23:26

@chris That's right, 5 in a row. That was the same time-period when Rod Laver played at wimbledon. So sorry, if one is not 108 yr old we won't recall. Guess I can still order it on VHS or beta?

      Chris in Oz - 2011-08-31 23:35

Exactly my point. What matters is now. Where are the Bulls NOW. Bottom of the log!!!!!

      Chris in Oz - 2011-08-31 23:52

@fake Chris No they not. Soon to be top 4. Watch WP fall out of top 4 in 2-3 weeks.

      Prowler - 2011-09-01 01:44

@ The only (schizophrenic) Chris in Oz. Soon to be losers!!! O sorry, already losers. BOTTOM OF THE LOG!!!

  • Punani - 2011-08-31 23:17

I think Province could get a shock in KBY this weekend. They were lucky to get a draw at home in the last game. Go Griquas!

      Fasie - 2011-08-31 23:28

@Punani Absolutely! And the ref is not gonna hand it to them on a plate again this time. Don't be surprised if Griquas win by 15+

  • Koos - 2011-09-01 07:16

weee pee must focus on not having a nervous breakdown! ! !

  • Zip23 - 2011-09-01 07:28

Lets get the facts straight: Everyone played 7, Cheeters won 3, Bulls, Griquas and WP won 4, Sharks 5 and Lions 6. Lions are the clear favourites, the rest of pack there is a 5 log points spread, thus the next couple of weeks will be telling, but neither the Bulls or WP have anything to brag about. But all-in-all the Bulls and WP really have been equally ordinary the season thus far. For my beloved Bulls, I thought they took Griquas apart two weeks ago, which only the Lions could to up to now. I think the killer instinct is there, just not consistent. WP been blowing hot and cold also.

  • BLOODY AGENT - 2011-09-01 09:43

    WP is a breakdown

      Oukoos - 2011-09-01 13:30

BLOODY AGENT, ek stem saam 2de op die log is bad bad bad. Niks om op trots te wees nie. Die Blou Bulle het baie om op trots te wees. 6de op die log! Heluit goed vir 'n span bestaande uit 50% paloekas.
