WP star causes havoc in hotel

Cape Town - Western Province centre Jaco Taute has been disciplined by the union after misbehaving in a Bloemfontein hotel.

According to the Netwerk24 website, the incident occurred after Western Province's 34-29 win over the Free State Cheetahs last Saturday.

It is believed that Taute had too much to drink which led to his behaviour at the Southern Sun hotel in Bloemfontein. It is reported that Taute bothered some of the hotel's guests and also broke a computer in the hotel lobby.

Howard Kahn, spokesperson of WP Rugby, said the matter was dealt with internally by the union.

"A disciplinary committee, consisting of the Director of Rugby (Gert Smal), the head coach (Allister Coetzee) and team management did a full investigation into the matter. We don't take such things lightly and the player was heavily punished.

"All parties involved were apologised to and they accepted it. We are satisfied that the matter was properly dealt with and that it is completed," said Kahn.

Taute sustained a rib injury in the game and his availability for this Saturday's clash against the Sharks at Newlands is in doubt.

With their win in Bloemfontein, WP made sure of top spot on the overall Currie Cup log.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
