Die Burger
newspaper reports that Lane - the son of former Springbok assistant coach Tim Lane - left for Australia on Tuesday to join the country's Rugby Academy.

The 20-year-old - who was born in Brisbane but educated at Bishops in Cape Town - played for WP in this year's Vodacom Cup  but then picked up a bad knee injury. He is apparently being linked with a move to Super Rugby side, the Melbourne Rebels.

Province recently also lost the services of another promising No 10 when Lionel Cronjé signed a contract with the Blue Bulls.

Meanwhile, the Western Province Rugby Union has not yet signed a deal with flyhalf Peter Grant to play for the Stormers in 2012's Super Rugby tournament.

Grant's agent, Craig Livingstone, said they are in talks with WP. "Peter is contracted until mid-March in Japan. There is interest in a new contract in Japan, but in that case he would still be available for Super Rugby," said Livingstone.
