Victory parade for champs WP

2012-10-29 17:59

Cape Town - The Currie Cup-winning Western Province squad will embark on a victory parade through three parts of Cape Town on Tuesday.

Both players and management will be joined by Western Cape Premier Helen Zille and Cape Town City Mayor Patricia de Lille to celebrate their dramatic 25-18 win over the Sharks in Saturday's Currie Cup Final.

Three busses, made up of all the players who featured in the 2012 Currie Cup season, team management, VIPs and the media will begin a parade at Cape Town City Hill, before going on to Elsiesriver and Khayelitsha to meet more fans.

The Mayor will arrive at City Hall at 12:45 and will be met by the team, coaches and the trophy on the balcony facing the parade and will address the crowd.

The busses will then make their way through Adderley Street, Wale Street, Long Street, Buitengracht Street, Loop Street and Strand Street. The busses will then head to Elsiesriver and Khayelitsha to complete the victory parade.

Politicians must stay away from this?now they are spoiling this victory by inviting unnesesary people to join in.....they are now going to be politicking, it's wrong.....don't mix sports with politics

If the Premier and Mayor were ANC they would also have been invited. Would you have objected then? It is about their positions as officials in the province / city, not about their politics.

Tumisang - Helen is a huge rugby fan, and is even regularly seen at the varsity cup games to suport her team, the ikeys.
