Same approach for WP

2012-09-05 16:41

Cape Town - Western Province will be hoping to maintain their winning ways when they take on the Free State Cheetahs in Bloemfontein on Saturday.

Scrumhalf Nic Groom was named in the starting team, replacing Dewaldt Duvenage who broke his leg in the 42-6 win over the Blue Bulls.

Captain Deon Fourie remains at flank after a solid efforrt there at Newlands last week.

Fourie said he was confident his side would be fully prepared for a tough Cheetahs challenge and said WP would have to forget about their convincing win over the Bulls.

"We had a lot that went in our favour and the ball bounced well for us," Fourie said on Wednesday.

"But that does not go without saying that we were prepared and up for whatever was thrown our way, and we'll take the same approach with us to Bloemfontein."

Meanwhile, wing Damian de Allende will get his first start in a Currie Cup match for WP. At the front of the scrum, Brok Harris will get a start at loosehead prop, with Frans Malherbe named on the bench.

The dynamic trio were the only changes to coach Alistair Coetzee's starting line-up for their clash in Bloemfontein, bolstering an inexperienced line-up that humiliated the Bulls.

Province will face an uphill challenge against a Cheetahs outfit sneaking up on the log leaders, having won two and lost two matches.

WP lead the Cheetahs by a single point on the log.

Coetzee believes WP's demanding victory over the Bulls will build confidence and ensure the side will remain in the hunt for a semi-final spot.

"Some of our under-21's have been tested at the highest level, and they have really put in a fantastic effort with the superior results," Coetzee said.

"Building our team has a dual purpose in developing players and consistently winning.

"It is a matter of keeping continuity and we want to be consistent.

"We are very fortunate to have a reserve bench who can cover more than one position, so we have selected players specific to the plan we've implemented and spoken about for a while now."

    Cheetahs by 42-6

      lean.sadie - 2012-09-05 16:49

Charles, you are dumb if you think the bulls will win anything. In this case, also the boks, way too many off form people in the team. Mainly Morne, Zane and Hougie. Few others too, but hey if your coach wants to learn the hard way, go for it. I am all for it. Rather lose now than in 3 years time.

      bernard.ingram - 2012-09-05 18:11

lean, you suffer from stereotypism. Charles did not mention the Bulls. In actual fact it is the Blue Bulls in the Currie Cup. Simple fact gotten wrong shows a rotten brain. That's you Lame.Fadie.

I'm just in awe of that man's ugliness. He took a real beating from the ugly stick

      sheldon.matthys.9 - 2012-09-05 18:57

Ja nee wat.Geweet dit sal maar neuk om vir 42-6 te vergeet.

      lean.sadie - 2012-09-05 18:59

Bernard Ingram (Azurite on here), you are the biggest idiot, and provincialism idiot in SA, not far ahead of the other crap trolls on here though. Say the same thing over and over. Yet have no brain to think or make any opinion of your own. You guys say the same stuff, yet never have an explanation, answer, anything meaningful or add anything to any thread. It's just the same old standard that we all came to expect. PS: In case most of you didn't know, Bernard is what we would call a fuel injection specialist.

      deon.fouche.3 - 2012-09-05 19:47

Lean, like in a car engine? If so, will never take by car to him if he knows fuel injection cars like he knows his rugby! Just know nothing at all! Will most probably keep telling me the same thing over and over!

      chrisin.oz.1 - 2012-09-06 06:57

@Dumbwin and pink johnny. It is now the second time this season that you guys have to support other unions to beat the WP/Stormers. First it was the Sharks and now the Cheetahs. When will you ever be able to support your own pink team again?

      bev.coleman.1232 - 2012-09-05 21:30

      chrisin.oz.1 - 2012-09-06 02:36

This is about WP not the Force who are actually based in Austria

      blou.johnny - 2012-09-05 22:30

....and still zero cups.... ....champion chokers....

      chrisin.oz.1 - 2012-09-06 01:38

This article is about the WP, not the cupless jokers from Tshwane. But I like the comment, just leave it for the next WP - Bulls game. Same result (42-6). Cupless (no cups on moftus)

      chrisin.oz.1 - 2012-09-06 01:39

@maaksiek. You are so funny. Suddenly a cupless joker pink pansie is bored. So I suppose the Lions - Pansie game will bore you to sleep again this weekend.
