Cape Town - Earl Rose is back in the rugby wilderness after he was not offered a new contract by the Griqualand West Rugby Union.

The Volksblad newspaper reports that the 27-year-old flyhalf and Griquas could not agree on a suitable offer. This comes barely a year after the union gave Rose's career a second life after the Lions let him go.

He played for Griquas is this year's Vodacom Cup but was overlooked for the Cheetahs' Super Rugby squad. He did, however, help out at the Stormers as a loan player but then struggled to make the Griquas' starting line-up in the recently concluded Currie Cup, playing second fiddle at flyhalf to Riaan Viljoen.

"We aimed to contract Earl Rose again, but in the end it wasn't possible as we couldn't agree on an amount with the involved parties," commented Griquas' chief executive, Arni van Rooyen.

With Viljoen off to the Sharks next season, Griquas have signed Blue Bulls flyhalf Marnitz Boshoff and Boland utility back Willie le Roux to fill the void left at No 10.

Rose's agent, Anthony Johnson, confirmed they are looking at other options, especially abroad.

And Rose said he wouldn't mind leaving South Africa. "I don't care if it is in South Africa or abroad, as long as I can play rugby."

    voetsek net uit rugby uit!

Come on Barry, give the journalist, except if it is Harmse, the benefit of the doubt. Earl was never in rugby or into rugby, maybe he was more into the ladies or a bottle of wine. To say that he is the rugby wildeness again actually means he did not cut his hair.

      Rather go to Japan.

lol, it is quite amusing how it is all in the eye of the beholder! Like Earl Rose could ever play rugby....or NOT. The best thing that ever happened to the Lions was when coach Mitchell let Earl Rose and Jano Vermaak leave the union. Earl, people need to have a work ethic my friend, you cannot just get paid casue you got curly hair!

Nou gaan hy ons naam daar gat maak

  • - 2011-11-10 08:17

I will personally buy him a one way ticket out of South Africa!!!!

  • Blou - 2011-11-10 08:21

  • Burtfred - 2011-11-10 08:34

"I don't care if it is in South Africa or abroad, as long as I can play rugby." When last did you play "rugby", Earl?

  • Gert - 2011-11-10 08:38

Toemaar. WP sal hom koop. Hulle doen sulke goed. Griekwas hanteer hom net verkeerd.

      Roy - 2011-11-10 08:56

Earl is the type of player who should stay in Griekwas where he belongs. WP does not need him or your comments regarding us buying a player who is useless.

      Gert - 2011-11-10 10:29

Hmmm, Hilton Lobberts, Sireli Nakanliwatookal, Earl Rose (Almost), Gcobani Bobo, Ricky January, Joe van Niekerk, Gaffie du Toit, CJ vd Linde. All of them either were useless from the start or started imploding the moment they got the fat paycheck from Province.

      Oukoos - 2011-11-10 14:01

@Gert Jy is gedeeltelik reg.

      Gert - 2011-11-10 14:19

Oukoos Dink jy Rassie lees Media24 :-)?

And I thought Rassie left WP/Stormers. Isn't Rassie now involved with the Boks. Maybe he'll play Rose instead of Morne. He might kick better than Morne.

His agent should look at signing him for Gilbert or another equipment company. He already has everything except game and ball knowledge. Reminds me of the rich kids at the posh schools who's parents buy the equipment and then pay the coaches to put them in the team although they have no idea what to do....

Div ruined the guy's career by playing favourites with him. He probably could have been pretty good, but he doesn't have the talent of guys like Lambie, Jantjies and Goosen.

  • Jou - 2011-11-10 15:48

Strange WP dont snap him up

  • Christo - 2011-11-10 16:45
