Cape Town - The Golden Lions are likely to receive a welcome boost with the return of centre Lionel Mapoe for their Currie Cup clash against Western Province at Newlands on Saturday.
According to the Beeld website, it's been 347 days since Mapoe played his last match for the Lions - which was their heartbreaking Currie Cup semi-final loss to WP last year.
On that day WP scored a try after the hooter at Ellis Park to win 21-16 and also went on to win the Currie Cup the next week by beating the Sharks in the final in Durban.
Mapoe was loaned to the Bulls for this year's Super Rugby competition but a shoulder injury has since prevented him from of returning for the Lions in the Currie Cup.
Lions coach Johan Ackermann said Mapoe is 99% certain to be ready to face WP on Saturday.
He said this was good news for the Lions, considering the fact that flyhalf Elton Jantjies (ankle) and centre Dylan des Fountain (knee) are likely to miss the remainder of the competition.
Their clash against WP kicks off at 14:00 on Saturday.
