Cape Town - Springbok Elton Jantjies could make an unexpected return at flyhalf for the Golden Lions when they face Western Province in the Currie Cup semi-finals at Newlands on Saturday.
Jantjies' season looked to have been over when he injured his ankle against the Sharks three weeks ago.
However, according to the Beeld website, the 23-year-old trained at flyhalf for the Lions on Tuesday and could be included in the starting team for Saturday's clash. His chances to play are rated as 50-50.
Should Jantjies be included, Marnitz Boshoff - who played at pivot in the last two games - will shift back to fullback.
Jantjies will be eager to prove a point at Newlands, especially after he endured a torrid Super Rugby season when he was loaned to the Stormers earlier this year.
Meanwhile, other good news for the Lions is that veteran prop CJ van der Linde is will also be ready to tackle the defending Currie Cup champions.
Kick-off is at 14:30 on Saturday.
