'Must-win' 50th for Strauss

2012-10-11 10:09

Cape Town - Free State Cheetahs captain Adriaan Strauss says their game against Western Province at Newlands - his 50th Currie Cup game for the union - is probably the most important one he's been involved in.

The Cheetahs need a win to have any chance of making the semi-finals, but perhaps more important is the fact that a loss may leave them in danger of losing their top flight status.

Should they go down on Saturday the chances are good that they will end up at the bottom of the log, which would mean a promotion-relegation battle against the EP Kings.

"The match against WP is of immense importance... it's one we simply have to win," Strauss told Volksblad.

"We view our next three matches as finals. But for now our focus is on Saturday."

The 26-year-old, who impressed in the No 2 jersey for the Springboks in Bismarck du Plessis's absence - says it's a huge honour to play his 50th Currie Cup game at a field like Newlands.

"It will be very special," he said.

The clash at Newlands kicks off at 17:05 on Saturday.

Good luck, Cheetahs. Anything can happen, but even a play off against the Kings is not the end of the world. You can certainly beat them! Speaking for most Cheetah supporters, we'll never stop being Cheetah fans, even if we have to watch you play in the first division...

Hey profile prowler hiding behind moustache, if you don't know who jimmy savile is that I mentioned, he was a creepy british sex offender.

      jimmy.moustache.12 - 2012-10-11 12:23

gary. any relation to this guy you mentioned?

  • gary.doyle.520 - 2012-10-11 11:24

Strauss is a good player but seeing him on super rugby show the other night it looks like he's eating to much pies!!

      jimmy.moustache.12 - 2012-10-11 11:32

from the looks of your profile pic you need to get some pies in you son. what do you weigh? 42kg

      ekhaat.weepee - 2012-10-11 11:39

      Wat weet jy???

      gary.doyle.520 - 2012-10-11 11:41

You like checking out profiles, should change your name to jimmy savile.

      spyker.oflanagan - 2012-10-11 12:03

Gary, your infatuation with sex offenders is quite worrying.

      jimmy.moustache.12 - 2012-10-11 12:03

i don't really, but at first glance you looked like that dude from euro trip, you know the real skinny one. so i had to investigate. i then found that some of your friends on FB dress like the village people and you also look like someone who hosts underground dog fight tournaments. i then immediately rued my decision to investigate and wished i had a time machine. i would use my time machine to go back 10 minutes earlier and tell myself 10 minutes ago DON'T DO IT. also if a had the time machine, I would take my Macbook Pro back to 1984 and visit Steve Jobs. After selling my laptop to him for millions I would return to the present. I could do this several times as each time the present technologies would have changed. It is a flawless plan, I am sure you will agree, lacking only the availability of time/dimension manipulation technologies.

      gary.doyle.520 - 2012-10-11 12:18

Bliksem jimmy snor you done some more profiling. Slapping together some words thinking you the bees knees now, but you still hide like a lost fart in a thunder storm. Get a life, your computor jargan means nothing. You offended because i took a dig at adriaan strauss, you pathetic man.

      jimmy.moustache.12 - 2012-10-11 12:28

You got me. You are correct, I have no friends. I am lonely and sad. I am currently sitting in a cave by myself, sustaining myself on beetles, powering my laptop by an ingenious array of pulleys and flywheels constructed from small lizards and tree sap from the local flora. I came here to escape my family, friends, industry associates, acquaintances and the lady next door who was spying on me, in the hope of completing my novel titled “why are there so many dickheads messaging me?” I have made the dedication out to you Gary and will endeavor to send you a copy once it goes to print.

      gary.doyle.520 - 2012-10-11 12:39

Keep typing wiseacre, you on a roll!!

      jimmy.moustache.12 - 2012-10-11 12:52

Well done, that sentence included a word containing more than three syllables – I am assuming wiseacre to be one word in your dimension. As I mentioned, I am currently writing a novel and would be honored if you would concede to being the editor. I realise that you must be in great demand, with a long list of literary achievements and I am less than worthy of your mastery in this area, but an opportunity such as this could simply not be passed by. I will attach the manuscript and look forward to your positive response.

      gary.doyle.520 - 2012-10-11 13:00

While your words are thought provoking and a sign of good education

      gary.doyle.520 - 2012-10-11 13:10

You are nothing more than a SOCKPUPPET

      jimmy.moustache.12 - 2012-10-11 13:20

By the power of gray scull that hurt. a SOCKPUPPET. The last time I was called that I was in grade R. We had this fat kid in our class who couldn't talk very well and collected sticks, he used to call the teacher 'mum' and during recess we would give him money to dance and then sell him sticks to get our money back. He called me a SOCKPUPPET.

      gary.doyle.520 - 2012-10-11 13:34

You string words and sentenses together like an accomplished goverment spokesman but yet you hide behind names in fear of people knowing who you really are. Why is that?

      jimmy.moustache.12 - 2012-10-11 13:48

Its because I am sad and skinny like you. Although I do not have a receding hairline I know we are very much alike. I admit to being in desperate need of increasing my body strength. My ten year old child often turns the taps off in the bathroom very tightly and I have to go several days without washing. I feel bad constantly having to ask the lady from next door to come over and loosen them for me, what with her arthritis and limited wheelchair access to my apartment. To be honest, I originally joined a gym with full intentions of attending every few days but after waiting in vain for someone to offer me steroids, I began to suspect this was not going to happen and the realisation that I may have to exercise instead was, quite frankly, horrifying. My aversion to work, along with the fact one of the employees, Justin, was rather rude, telling me to 'lift this', ''push that' dulled my initial enthusiasm of becoming muscular and I stopped attending.

      gary.doyle.520 - 2012-10-11 14:12

Wow, you do have the whole jimmy thing going. Jimmy fallon now, funny lad you are indeed. Thanks 4 noticing my forehead enhancement, it took a while to get it like that but has been worth the wait. You really should make better use of this talent you have, these comment blogs are beneath the likes of your snappy, imaginative and very entertaining responses. If I was that multi talented I would cash in on it!

      jimmy.moustache.12 - 2012-10-11 14:27

Noted. I must admit I do not always know where I stand with you. First you insult my cousin Adriaan, you called me a sex offender, something I haven't done in nearly a decade and you called me a SOCKPUPPET. After all this I received some very nice compliments. I am intensely intermediate by you. I wouldn’t attempt such a foolhardy excersise such as competing with a mental giant as yourself. I am possibly the least competitive person I know and am in fact the current national loser in the ‘Who is Least Competitive Championships’ where trying to win will make you lose. Trying to lose makes you win which makes you lose. Not trying at all makes you lose which makes you win which makes you lose.

      gary.doyle.520 - 2012-10-11 14:44

Mudslinging contest, i implied adriaan was getting duk and ironically im the one with pie on my face now. You really must enjoy typing, my impaired ability prevents me from responding with the thought provoking yet humerous essays you bombarded at me.

      jimmy.moustache.12 - 2012-10-11 15:37

I enjoy typing as much as WP enjoys not scoring 4 try bonus points among with other qualities, which include reciting prime numbers backwards from 90956, reading to blind children & training seals, embellishment may be at the top. I must admit I recently employed a writer for specifically these situations and the R 2000 per month I am paying him proved to be ingenious. So do not get angered by your inability to respond. When I am angry I like to Listen to music by Satin Slayers. The added angst and desire to cut myself works similarly to the way fire-fighters fight forest fires by burning off sections, effectively cancelling each other out and I find myself at peace. I understand that you usually listen to Pet Shop Boys or Frankie Goes to Hollywood so this may be worth a try.

      gary.doyle.520 - 2012-10-11 16:02

Were you a ritalin child?? Just asking. Your verbal dirhea would work wonders as motivational talks for any teams or others in need of some extra voom. Just 1 marathon of words from you would encourage a person for life, providing you not submitted to it again. A debate with you is really like pulling a knife out in a nuclea war fight. Im not much of a believer but it seems you were blessed with some serious crap. Go talk the ears off Obama, the repulicans could use your help. As for pet shop boys and frankie goes to holywood, no thanks, i stand and piss!!

      jimmy.moustache.12 - 2012-10-11 16:21

What a disappointment? I was just testing the waters with the Pet Shop Boys. Neil Tennant is the greatest singer/song writer of all times. And I know all about being disappointing. Recently, I was tricked into watching The Notebook which was about geese. Lots of geese. It also had something to do with an old lady who conveniently lost her memory so she could not remember being a whore throughout the entire film. I don’t recall a lot of it as I was too busy being cross about watching it.

      gary.doyle.520 - 2012-10-11 17:02

Well it seems news24 never displayed my last comment. I didn't make the cut!!

      jimmy.moustache.12 - 2012-10-12 07:51

Are you saying it is over? Through time and a series of expensive counseling sessions, I may see my way through it. If you would be interested in perhaps attending some of these sessions together, I believe we may resolve our differences. Its the little things isn’t it Gerard, the little things that you found cute in the beginning of our relationship have become the catalyst for this anger. I can change Gerard. I can change for you. I love you Gerard.

Can't wait for this game! As a Lions fan I don't care who wins, but there's a lot riding on it for both teams so it'll be fascinating to see who wins the front row and backline battles under pressure.

I want to raise an issue to the pencil pushers at Media24 - Sport24 division. It really iritates the crap out of me that you don't write about the 1st division team, there is no link/tab available for the 1st division of the Currie Cup, no log standings, no fixtures, no nothing only once in a blue moon we get a smal article about this team beat that team. Do you not value the 1st Division at all? Is it nothing more to you than a joke? To be honest, this year especially with the new Currie Cup format, I would say the 1st Division has been the most important to watch as there are still three TOP teams in the Premier Division that could end in relegation after this weekend, it would have been nice to be able to follow the 1st Division and see the progress of our smaller nations and who will end up at the top of the standings. I think it is very weak not to report on the 1st Division at all. Those guys play great rugby too. As a RUGBY lover, not a narrow minded Bulls or Stormer or Shark supporter who only care about their teams I am actually a RUGBY lover, and enjoy all rugby from Varsity Cup to the World Cup. Im not saying that you should report on every single rugby tournament in SA but listen the Currie Cup is the Currie Cup our greatest tournament, the oldest rugby tournament in the world and a jewel that will neve tarnish no matter how many teams you prop into the Super Rugby. And the fact is the CC has two sides. Please consider for next year to also report on the 1st Div.
