Cape Town - Blue Bulls flyhalf Morné Steyn has been suspended for one week of rugby after being found guilty by a SARU Judicial Officer on Tuesday.
Steyn was cited for allegedly breaching law, 10.4 (a), which deals with the striking of an opponent with, for instance the arm, following the Blue Bulls’ Currie Cup semi-final loss to the Sharks in Durban on Saturday.
Judicial Officer Louis Booyse suspended Steyn from all forms of rugby until 28 October 2012. With the Bulls already out of the competition and the Boks only playing in November, Steyn thus won't miss any matches.
Meanwhile, Steyn's team-mate at the Bulls Morné Mellett - who was cited for tripping Sharks flyhalf Patrick Lambie in the same match - escaped unpunished.
Booyse found that Mellett's yellow card issued was sufficient punishment under the circumstances.
