'Monster' extends WP stay

Cape Town - Big and strong Western Province back Damian de Allende has extended his stay at the Cape Town-based union.

According to Die Burger's website, the centre has signed a deal that will keep him at Newlands until the end of the 2015 season.

His agent, Merve van der Merwe, said De Allende is happy with his prospects at WP.

"Damian is currently happy in the Cape. He can't ask for a better learning school to play in the same province as Jean de Villiers and Juan de Jongh," said Van der Merwe.

The 21-year-old initially played wing but has since been utilised at centre by WP coach Allister Coetzee.

At 1.89m and 100kg, De Allende is big and strong, and was earlier this week described as a "monster" in midfield by WP backline coach Robbie Fleck.

De Allende will partner Pat Howard in midfield when WP take on the Free State Cheetahs in a Currie Cup game at Newlands on Saturday.

Kick-off is at 19:15.
