Lions rest stars for Griquas clash

Johannesburg - The Van der Walt brothers Jaco and Gerdus will run out together for the Golden Lions in their Currie Cup clash against Griquas at Ellis Park on Saturday (16:05 kick-off).

Jaco will don the No 10 jersey while Gerdus will be at inside centre partnering with Jacques Nel in midfield.

The side will be led on the field by scrumhalf Ricky Schroeder, while a host of Under 21 players have been given the opportunity to taste Currie Cup rugby in this last game of the pool stages.

Up front, Robbie Coetzee returns after a two week lay-off and is joined by Pieter Scholtz at tighthead.

The locks are MB Lusaseni and Martin Muller, while Kwagga Smith, Fabian Booysen and Ruaan Lerm will form the loose-trio.

Mark Richards and Sampie Mastriet are the wings and Vainon Willis the fullback.

The bench also boast few new faces in Mark Pretorius, Jacques van Rooyen, Bobby de Wee, Lohan Jacobs and Salom Gavor while Stephan de Witt and Rohan Janse van Rensburg will also watch proceedings from the sideline.

Coach Johan Ackermann was able to pick a second string side as his charges are already assured of top spot on the Currie Cup log.
