Johannesburg - A player from Roodepoort rugby club has been suspended for two years after being found guilty of verbal and physical abuse of a referee.
The incident happened during a game between Kanniedood and Chiros at the UJ Milo Park C-field on August 5.
The player, Meyrick Gibhard, who plays for Roodepoort rugby club, will only be eligible to play rugby again on August 5, 2017.
“The Golden Lions Rugby Union will not tolerate any abuse of any kind and is committed to stamping out actions like these,” the union announced via a media statement released on Thursday.
