Lambie at pivot for Sharks

2012-10-10 16:24

Durban - Sharks coach John Plumtree has resisted the temptation to throw all his returning Springboks into the starting XV for their final regular season Currie Cup encounter against Griquas in Durban on Friday.

Patrick Lambie is the only one of the seven available Boks that have been thrust into the line-up, while hooker Craig Burden, prop Jannie du Plessis, flanker Marcell Coetzee and wing Lwazi Mvovo have all been included on the bench.

Springbok regulars Tendai Mtawarira and Willem Alberts have been given a break.

Utility back Lambie has been named at flyhalf, in place of Meyer Bosman, in one of three changes to the side that beat the Free State Cheetahs 37-30 in Bloemfontein last week.

Cobus Reinach also makes the run-on team ahead of Charl McLeod at scrumhalf, while the final change is an enforced one with hooker Pieter Dixon, who fractured his arm, making way for Kyle Cooper.

The table-topping Sharks have already secured a home semi-final by virtue of guaranteeing themselves a place in the top two, but will be looking for one more victory to book a potential home final.

“We’ve put ourselves in a nice position, but we know how tough Griquas are,” Plumtree said.

“They’ve knocked off almost everyone this year, so it’s going to be a tough match.

“We’ve got a lot of respect for them. In the past we haven’t had too much trouble with them, especially here in Durban, but we think this side’s got a little bit more to them.”

Ek wonder wat die gespuis, wat hom as die Bokke se heelagter wou hê, nou te sê het.

      luke.watskots - 2012-10-10 16:30

      hans.himmler.7 - 2012-10-10 22:03

Ignorance is bliss. Have you even analysed Kirschner's game? He is close to useless. Dit wys maar net wat jy en Spyker van die game weet ouboet. Meyer se keuses wys op die telbord. And it looks bad. BLACK.WHITE.DYNAMITE.

      blou.johnny - 2012-10-11 01:06

...useless at nr 10... ...useless at nr 15....

      hans.himmler.7 - 2012-10-11 20:49

kevin, the idiot turns his back on defensive runs. At Springbok level, even Currie Cup level, you should know turning your back is giving up your defensive stance...what a tosser.

      hans.himmler.7 - 2012-10-11 21:01

Useless is in the eyes of the beholder. Kotsner en Morne, nou hulle is so useless soos 'n twee tuinstoelle op 'n yskaatsbaan.

    Fantastic for the Sharks.

  • denis.dendrinos - 2012-10-10 16:40

Much better than Bosman. Welcome back boys. Know the boks are tired, but would be nice to see Marchell play too - he ios freakin awesome! Gotta wonder if Lambie won't be a bit rusty though after all his bench time.

      TravieGrif - 2012-10-11 11:02

I agree that he is better Bosman, but you have to admit that Bosman has been incredible with the boot in this CC. I would love to see his accuracy stats, because I think he must be sitting in the 90% accuracy range, and it is not all from 20m either. And this coming from someone who has said that he was one of the worst hiring moves that Straelli has ever made, but he has done really well, and I was wrong. Coetzee is on the bench...we will see him in action, there is no doubt.

      TravieGrif - 2012-10-11 12:38

Just let me add that I am delighted to see that Lambie is taking over the 10 jersey. I believe that he is the right man for the job, including at Bok level.

and you Cliff will be shot after this year and save us Kings from whining idiot

  • fred.vandermerwe - 2012-10-10 17:38

Well done John! by keeping the guys in who got you there in the first place... So easy to drop them because the Springboks return and more than often its the downfall for a team bringing in the Springboks. Not only will they play harder for you but the trust and believe you give them will pay off in the long run... Until its the Final, then unfortunately most will probably start on the bench...

  • denese.newby - 2012-10-10 20:07

That's where Lambie should be. I hope he's taking Ruan Pienaar's advice!

      svrutherford - 2012-10-10 20:47

What advice did Pienaar give him?

      macziekpk - 2012-10-10 22:08

      What is a Lambie?

      TravieGrif - 2012-10-11 11:27

Pienaar advised Lambie to chose his position and play there, so he didn't get the "utility back' label.

Al wat ek kan sê is: Griekwas, Pote het julle goed versorg hierdie jaar, maar ek is bevrees vir die naweek wat kom, HKGK.

  • justin.hemming.94 - 2012-10-11 08:44

What a team! Time to show HM what Lambie can do at flyhalf - With Goose injured, I rekon he's got to have the inside track for Bok No. 10.

  • alfred.neuman.988 - 2012-10-11 08:51

Where is BlueRaven with his favourite question "Why don't the Sharks play Lambie at flyhalf?" ? I can uderstand Plum resting guys like Beast & Alberts but why are Burden, Mvovo & Coetzee on the bench? They must be itching to play a full game!

      luke.watskots - 2012-10-11 09:22

Fikkit jou aap, die Fransman is weg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      TravieGrif - 2012-10-11 11:29

He doesn't want to do what he did last season, which was rushing the Boks back into the team and losing all the cohesion and momentum that had been created with the CC team. Ease them back in.

      alfred.neuman.988 - 2012-10-12 10:41

Ok so if Lambie can not play at flyhalf then why did Lambie start some games at flyhalf with Freddie starting on the bench. When Freddie came on then Lambie would drop back to fullback. You might see this happen when Bosman comes on. The point being made here is that if Plum considers Lambie good enough at flyhalf to keep the French International no 10 on the bench then HM should see him as good enough to play at flyhalf for the bokke.

      alfred.neuman.988 - 2012-10-12 10:44

Luke when you need to use derogatory terms to address people you come across as being extremely insecure. Putting other people down does not make you look any better. If you have a good argument then that should speak for itself. But thanks for you input in anycase.

      alfred.neuman.988 - 2012-10-12 11:17

Ok so here goes: For the 2012 S15 Season........... Lambie had 10 starts at fly half and four starts at fullback. Freddie had 3 starts at scrumhalf and 8 starts at flyhalf. This means that despite the fact that Lambie was injured he was still prefered at flyhalf over the Frenchman for a majority of games.
