Kitshoff warned by WP coaches

Cape Town - Western Province prop Steven Kitshoff has been warned by their coaching staff to improve his consistency.

Despite their 20-19 win over Griquas in Kimberley last week, WP were dominated physically by the home side and came off second best in the scrums.

According to the Cape Times, WP forwards coach Matthew Proudfoot has issued a warning to four members of his pack ahead of their Currie Cup clash against the Golden Lions in Johannesburg on Friday (19:10 kick-off).

Proudfoot was reluctant to mention all four but did single out Kitshoff as a culprit.

"I was very disappointed with the physical performance of about four guys in the pack. I don't think we matched the intensity of the Griquas pack up front. There were about four guys who disappointed me and I want to see a response from them this week," said Proudfoot.

"Steven is a young guy (21) and we've got to make sure that his motivation is spot on every week, and get him in that frame of mind. I think he is very disappointed in his game, and he is one of the four players who I was disappointed in.

"We've sat him down and told him 'Steven, you can't play as well as you did against the Cheetahs and then the next performance is down'. We want to see him continue that same intensity that he had against the Cheetahs (when WP won 15-14) and which he had in Super Rugby."

Proudfoot didn't mention the other four culprits, but prop Pat Cilliers and locks Michael Rhodes and De Kock Steenkamp did  not cover themselves in glory in Kimberley...
