Holmes returns for WP

2012-09-12 14:12

Cape Town - Western Province head coach Allister Coetzee has named his team for Saturday's Absa Currie Cup clash against the Sharks in Durban.

Coetzee has made just one injury-enforced change to the starting XV that picked up a valuable 29-22 away win over the Toyota Free State Cheetahs last weekend.

Tyrone Holmes returns in the No 7 jersey, after recovering from a shoulder injury, and he will replace Rynhardt Elstadt who has, in turn, been ruled out for three weeks with a rib injury.

On the bench, meanwhile, Tom Botha replaces Springbok squad member Frans Malherbe as the additional front row replacement and fit-again Joe Pietersen returns to the match day 22 at the expense of youngster Pat Howard.

Botha is a former WP Under-21 star and a member of the Vodacom Cup-winning WP side from earlier this year. He will make his Absa Currie Cup debut should he take to the field. Pietersen, of course, will return to action for the first time since Round One - also against the Sharks - a wrist injury having kept him out.

"This is a good Sharks side - even without their many Springboks. Their pack then (when we lost to them in the first round) was probably weaker than the one now - they've got Bresler back and Daniel too. Really, they're a quality outfit across the board," said Coetzee.

"Also, it's an away game (in Durban), which is another challenge for us, plus we've not beaten the Sharks in the 2012 Absa Currie Cup.

"Every game is important and tough, but we want to start the second round of competition better and we want to continue improving our game."

On paper WP must have the best attacking backline in the country. Brache and Catrakilis both seriously under rated. The Sharks will have their hands full if they are going to field Joubert and Bosman against them.

      jason.children - 2012-09-12 14:42

I like Brache, runs good attacking lines. Cat is a good alround player but his distance on his kicks lets him down.

      paul.sdoow - 2012-09-12 15:22

cat don't need distance on his boot. with the centre pair of brache and du ples they are working so well together and the wings are getting ball now .

      nkwe.mahlanghu - 2012-09-12 16:31

alfred.neuman.988 stop drinking mate. Sharks by 15

      paul.sdoow - 2012-09-12 16:59

nkwe are you on the correct forum cause your prediction ain't correct? i always wondered how there are people ranked lower than me on super bru but you a perfect example why. you also got the bulls by 20 and a bonus point try? ha ha ha

      alfred.neuman.988 - 2012-09-12 17:08

nkwe I am a Sharks supporter. I will be cheering for my team at the top of my lungs. However I believe that I can support my team without trashing the opposition and insulting their supporters. This is a good backline and I don't see anyone arguing that point. I also admit that the Sharks backs are not what we would like them to be and despite the fact that this is a home game we are going to have to play well to win this one. Hopefully the Sharks play to their stengths and keep the game tight.

Pretty soon we will be calling on False Bay players. this must be the worst run of injuries in WP history.

      lean.sadie - 2012-09-12 16:53

new troll in town? Is that you tom the turd? Finish your work yet? Let me guess, those 2 centres haven't been playing well either? Brache has been playing really well, and should be ahead of Jean at the moment in the province set up anyways. O Wait, I forgot you don't watch or know rugby, just like to drivel. Carry on. /ignore

      shooshyu.tu - 2012-09-14 15:37

@lean.sadie Think you are correct, also saw the pattern with the immature comments afetr his 4th comment. He has gone from being a Retarded Turd to a Prick with a Mullet to being a Prick named Mac, and now changing his race in order to stir up a bit of racial haterd (sic). Just what we need in the country at this stage,

  • stephen.axtell.7 - 2012-09-12 17:14

Hmmm, I have a funny feeling this loser - nkwe.mahlanghu is using a phony Facebook account, maybe its that inbred Tom Tardis/ Nick Mullet
