Fourie lands Griquas job

Cape Town - Free State Cheetahs assistant coach Hawies Fourie is set to be named as the new head coach of Griquas.

According to the Volksblad website, Griquas will make the appointment official later on Thursday.

Fourie will replace Pote Human, who recently resigned to take the head coaching role at the University of Pretoria (Tuks).

Fourie will officially take over at Griquas on November 1 this year. He will still fulfil the role of assistant coach to the Cheetahs during the Super Rugby competition, which means Griquas will also be hunting for an assistant to Fourie, since Abré Minnie also decided to leave when Human resigned.

The assistant will coach the team during the Vodacom Cup competition, with Fourie returning for the Currie Cup.

Griquas will finish last in this year's Currie Cup Premier Division and are set to play two promotion-relegation games against the Pumas to try and keep their top-flight status alive.

But before they focus on the promotion-relegation series, Griquas have a final Currie Cup league fixture against the Golden Lions in Johannesburg on Saturday (15:00 kick-off).
