Griquas change one for Sharks

Kimberley - Griquas coach Pote Human made one injury enforced change to his side for their final Currie Cup game of the group stage against the Sharks in Durban on Friday.

The Peacock Blues are looking to book their place in the semi-finals of this year's competition.

Human resisted the urge to tamper with the side that is aiming to reach the playoffs for the first time in 14 years.

Griquas centre Walter Venter will replace the injured veteran JP Nel in midfield in the only change to the run-on side.

Nel dislocated his finger in the Peacock Blues' surprise victory over the Golden Lions last weekend and will be out for the rest of the season.

Venter, however, has been part of the Kimberley-based side's onslaught in search of the title from the start.

"Luckily he (Venter) has been involved in the team ever since we started out, so he is no stranger to pairing up with Jean Stemmet," Human said.

"His ability to dominate the tackle situation with his physicality will come in handy in Durban."

Human predicted that the battle at the breakdown area will be crucial and kept his loose trio unchanged for the match.

Flanker Wesley Wilkins, who missed the Lions match due to injury, recovered in time and could make an appearance off the bench.

"Justin (Downey) has done really well against the Lions and deserves to start again," he said.

"He will form an all important combination with Leon Karemaker and Marnus Schoeman in what we believe will be a closely contested affair at the breakdown area.

"At the same time it is nice to have Wesley back and he will definitely play a role from the bench."
