Star pivot Goosen returns

2012-08-22 14:52

Bloemfontein - Free State Cheetahs coach Naka Drotské has included young flyhalf sensation Johan Goosen in his starting line-up for the Currie Cup clash against Griquas in Kimberley on Saturday.

Goosen will make his return to the field after he injured his shoulder in a Super Rugby match against the Highlanders in Bloemfontein earlier in the season.

He was sidelined for nearly four months after surgery to his shoulder and will make his comeback partnering with scrumhalf Sarel Pretorius.

Goosen was promoted to the starting line-up in the place of Riaan Smit, who dislocated his shoulder in the Cheetahs' 32-18 victory over the Blue Bulls over the weekend.

Smit along with scrumhalf Piet van Zyl, who broke his collarbone, will be sidelined for the rest of the season.

Great news! Can't wait to see him playing for the Boks in the future.

Good news, Now let see if he can bring the right Nails....

Awesome, lets hope he shows the same greatness as before. We need someone to push Steyn to perform even better.

      mardeo.bezuidenhout - 2012-08-23 11:08

your right, we need some1 to push Steyn....out the team!!!

  • shayne.r.barker - 2012-08-22 15:11

I am yet to see him play. Is he good?

      mardeo.bezuidenhout - 2012-08-23 11:10

He runs like cooper, kicks like carter & tackles like henry hannibol. All round package.

I still don't understand the fuss around this bloke (sensation!)! Granted, he is better then Steyn, but not special. He has not been tested against serious opposition and will fall short of the high expectations created by the bokkie fans. Will watch him closely on Saturday.

      pierrefrewd.juice - 2012-08-22 15:22

well, steyn is pretty special, and if he is any better, and you apply your mind, you might come to the conclusion that the hype around this kid is justified. idiot.

      chris.gill.9849 - 2012-08-22 15:38

Before he got injured in Super 15 he had the 2nd best stats of all number 10's in the competition for running, passing, tactical kicking and place kicking... and that was in his first season on S15.

Serious apposition in your view must be NZ opponents correct ? Did you watch any super rugby this year ? thats right , he was the no 10 playing against your beloved NZ teams for the FS , and he faired pretty well to say the least. Pls check your facts before commenting on anything in future.

      TravieGrif - 2012-08-22 16:22

Tony Johnson is one of the guys who was raving about him a few months back on reunion, this just before he was injured. I really hope he is as good as he appeared. I am the first to say that stats do not tell the full story, and he certainly needs to have his mettle tested, but those stats were pretty flattering. There is no doubt that the attention has been warranted, and SA will be all the stronger if he can pick up where he left off.

      Greg.J.M - 2012-08-22 17:28

Did you watch any Super Rugby this year?

      bernard.ingram - 2012-08-22 18:50

Steyn holds several Bok and World records, is the fastest points-scorer to 100, 200, 300 and 400 points in Bok rugby and is now the most-capped flyhalf in Bok history. He is also the only South African to pass 1 000 points in Super Rugby and second only to Dan Carter. So if Steyn beats Carter's records he is not special? cape.maori you remain a classless act.

      whusselmann - 2012-08-22 19:01

This guy is the best flyhalf South Africa had for the last half century. Only Naas Botha falls in his bracket. If you can t see it, you "re probably born blind or someone thinks you are a mushroom and has been keeping you in the dark and been feeding you manure.

      shaun.neveling.9 - 2012-08-22 20:59

Why are you watching currie cup? Don't you have something better to do as I'm sure the standard of rugby in SA is not good enough for you?

  • dave.short.102 - 2012-08-22 15:20

This bloke has serious talent, hope HM sees that!! I am a MS fan, but get this bloke in the SB mix before he is off to Japan!!

      bernard.ingram - 2012-08-22 18:51

dave,,,MS has won many games for the Boks. ARE you Blind????

  • Stormkaap - 2012-08-22 17:16

I hope they are not rushing back from injury too soon.

  • whusselmann - 2012-08-22 19:08

Sorry Morne van Dyk, but i think it is Steyn that will have to try to push Goosen to perform better. I do however not think that he will be up to that task. No reflection on Morne. There is no flyhalves playing in South Africa that is in Goosen s class. Lambie and Elton might cover for him together with Morne, but they , due to no fault of their own, can t be mentioned in the same breath than Goosen.

Ek voel baie sleg vir Sias se part ek dink hulle moes eerder vir Johan van die bench af speel

  • mazwi.zuma - 2012-08-23 11:08

What a pity this talent is going to be wasted cos there's Morne Steyn.....the coach's favorite
