Double boost for WP

Cape Town - Western Province will be strengthened by the availability of skipper Deon Fourie and utility forward Michael Rhodes for their Currie Cup clash against the Free State Cheetahs in Bloemfontein this coming Friday.

According to Die Burger's website, Fourie has recovered from a rib injury while Rhodes will be available after missing last Friday's 19-13 win over Griquas due to suspension.

Fourie is expected to slot back in at flank, while Rhodes can be considered at either flank or lock.

The young Tazz Fuzani has played well at lock in recent weeks, so it could be wise to play Rhodes at flank - as he did against the Blue Bulls two weeks ago before he was sent-off for stamping on their skipper Jono Ross.

Rynhardt Elstadt - who pulled out before the Griquas game due to a shoulder injury - will be monitored during the week but if he can't play then Rhodes is likely to slot in at flank with the physical Fuzani staying in the second row.

WP are currently second on the overall log, trailing the Sharks on points difference, while the Cheetahs lie fourth after a humiliating 50-26 loss to the Durbanites over the weekend.

Currie Cup fixtures:

Friday:

Free State Cheetahs v Western Province - 17:05
Golden Lions v Sharks - 19:10

Saturday:

Griquas v Blue Bulls - 14:00
