Catrakilis set for WP return

Cape Town - Western Province flyhalf Demetri Catrakilis is set to make his return to the playing field when they tackle Griquas in a Currie Cup game at Newlands on Friday.

Catrakilis, who was WP's hero when they won the Currie Cup last year, recently signed a new two-year deal with the Cape side after representing the Kings earlier this year.

According to Die Burger's website, the 24-year-old has recovered from a shoulder injury he suffered playing for the Kings in their Super Rugby promotion-relegation match against the Lions on July 26.

Gary van Aswegen has a slight knee injury and coach Allister Coetzee hinted that he won't risk him against Griquas. Kurt Coleman is the other flyhalf in the squad.

Van Aswegen played well when he replaced Coleman in WP's 29-18 win over the Blue Bulls at the weekend, and the plan would have been to let him start against Griquas.

However, Catrakilis is now likely to fill that void on Friday (19:10 kick-off).

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
