Brüssow turns down big offers

Cape Town - Springbok flank Heinrich Brüssow has extended his contract with the Free State Cheetahs, despite many lucrative offers elsewhere.

This revelation comes just after Brüssow boarded the plane with the Springboks for the World Cup in New Zealand on Thursday night.

According to the Volksblad newspaper, the talented Bok fetcher had the luxury of deciding for what South African team or overseas club he wanted to play for.

But Brüssow's agent, Stephan Weyers, says the flank ace decided to turn down all other offers to stay in Bloemfontein.

He has extended his contract with Free State for a further two years until the end of the 2013 season.

"Heinrich wants to play for the Cheetahs. He is loyal towards his team-mates, coaches and supporters and is positive about the future of Cheetah-rugby," said the agent.

"Heinrich could earn more money at other places, but he is happy in Bloemfontein where he owns property, has shares in businesses and is close to his parents, girlfriend and friends."

The agent also said a lot of hard work was done to keep Brüssow in Bloemfontein. He said many businessmen went to extremes to keep him at Free State, while he also singled out Cheetahs coach Naka Drotské as having a big influence on Brüssow's decision to stay.

Meanwhile, the Free Staters received more good news when Drotské confirmed to Volksblad that Griquas scrumhalf Sarel pretorius will play for Free Sate in the Currie Cup next year and in 2013. He will, however, play for the Waratahs in Australia during the Super Rugby season.
