Brüssow set to miss Currie Cup

Cape Town - The Free State Cheetahs' Springbok flank, Heinrich Brüssow, looks set to play no part in the remainder of the Currie Cup due to a rib injury.

Brüssow left the field early in the Springboks' 11-9 Rugby World Cup quarter-final defeat at the hands of the Wallabies.

According to the Volksblad newspaper, Brüssow arrived in Bloemfontein on Wednesday and probably won't play any part in the Currie Cup.

"I'm not yet exactly sure how severe my injury is and I still need to visit a doctor. I think it's cracked," said Brüssow.

He is definitely ruled out of the Cheetahs' clash against Griquas at the Free State Stadium on Saturday - and will in all likelihood also miss their semi-final a week later. He experienced problems with his ribs even before the clash against the Australians.

The Cheetahs' clash against their neighbours from Kimberley kicks-off at 15:00 on Saturday.

Free State Cheetahs:

15 Rudi Vogt, 14 Dusty Noble, 13 Wilmaure Louw, 12 Matthew Rosslee, 11 Rocco Jansen, 10 Riaan Viljoen, 9 Sarel Pretorius, 8 Leon Karemaker, 7 Justin Downey, 6 Jonathan Mokuena (captain), 5 George Earle, 4 Hendrik Roodt, 3 Lourens Adriaanse, 2 Ryno Barnes, 1 Ivann Espag

Substitutes: 16 Simon Westraadt, 17 Steph Roberts, 18 Jaco Nepgen, 19 Burger Schoeman, 20 Marnus Hugo, 21 Earl Rose, 22 Fabian Juries

      genisus - 2011-10-13 09:45

@Michael: I was just thinking about that... do you know what happened with that offer? With Flo gone WP really needs another thief and Brussow would fit in just perfect! :-)

      Michael - 2011-10-13 10:48

a Few bloem business men got together and offered him a deal. Apparently not as big as that of wp but big enough i guess..

  • Anneleen - 2011-10-13 08:53

      Wide Awake - 2011-10-13 15:02

I agree - pity this man get injured so much - a real asset to RSA rugby even if he only play 5 games a year

  • Vuka C96 - 2011-10-13 09:21

Hopefully he will recover for the final.

VICKERMAN coming in from the side of the ruck and dropping the shoulder into Heinrich's ribs. Blatant foul play intenting on injuring him. No penalty from that Bryce dwarf and no citing. What a joke.

      POLAR_BEAR - 2011-10-13 09:39

Paddler - read the article..he was carrying a rib injury before the Australia match started. He is such a great player that the selectors had to chose him even though he was already injured...the result of the game shows how much he was missed when he left the field.

To all you guys that rate this schoolboy "Broussow", should for once and for all know that he is not an 80 minute game player. Maybe he should start for a maximim of 20 minutes. This is a bloody tough game. He would never ever be selected by either of the the top playing nations, if the situation presented itself. He has been patronised to death by the media. To be rated as the greatest "Fetcher" is absolutly laughable. One small bump, and the man is off the field.

      Michael - 2011-10-13 13:02

wow.. A rocket scientist! He went onto the field with a suspected cracked rib.. Id like to see how many 'schoolboys' would attempt that.. I'm not sure who u support but i can guarintee u they made him an offer..

Bullsh*t !! Walaby lock Dan Vickerman gave him a cheap shot during the semi-final game - he stomped him and cracked one of his ribs _ thats why he had to go off - typically no citing
