Boshoff: Physicality will be key

Johannesburg - Golden Lions flyhalf Marnitz Boshoff says his team needs to show up physically if they are to beat the Sharks in Durban this weekend.

The Golden Lions have been in fine form during the Currie Cup campaign this year. They have won six of their eight games so far, which earns them second spot on the overall standings with two rounds left before the playoffs.

They face the Sharks at Kings Park on Friday night. An away victory will give them a good chance of securing a home Currie Cup semi-final.

Boshoff believes the Sharks will provide a tough game, especially at the collisions.

"The Sharks are a very physical team. We'll need to match them at the gain line," Boshoff told the MyPlayers website.

"I'm confident we can do so as our forwards are playing very well at the moment, and our backs are taking their opportunities.

"One thing the team has done well this season is the interplay between players, especially backs and forwards. If we can front up against the Sharks and get our game plan right this weekend, we'll do well in Durban."

Although the playoffs are in two weeks’ time, Boshoff stressed that the Lions are not looking too far ahead.

"We're taking things week by week. We would love to host a semi-final, but we need to get the job done before we can look ahead to anything else," said Boshoff. "We have two tough games ahead of us, including the Cheetahs derby after the Sharks game, so we have to be focused on the job at hand."

Boshoff is back in the starting line-up for the game against the Sharks, after making an early return from injury off the bench against Griquas last weekend.

"I'm hoping to pick up where I left off. It was tough watching from the sidelines as injuries are never nice, but I'm glad to be back," said Boshoff. "I just want to do my job well for the team, especially during the crucial rounds of the Currie Cup."

Kick-off for Friday's clash at Kings Park is scheduled for 19:10.
