Blue Bulls sign WP's Cronjé

Johannesburg - The Blue Bulls Company Pty (Ltd) on Monday announced the signing of flyhalf Lionel Cronjé from Western Province on a two-year contract.

His term starts from the beginning of November after his current deal with the Cape side concludes at the end of October.

The versatile 22-year-old from Bloemfontein, who can also play fullback, has featured for Province in the Currie Cup and also turned out for the Stormers in Super Rugby over the last two seasons.

He is currently recovering from knee surgery.

Cronjé, who is a former SA under-20 player, said he was looking forward to the challenge of playing his rugby at Loftus.

"The opportunity at the Bulls is one that I am looking forward to immensely," said Cronjé.

"I would like to believe that my best years as a player are still ahead of me and that I could become an asset to the Bulls and take my game to the next level with them."

Heyneke Meyer, who is head of rugby at the Bulls, said the union has been looking to sign Cronjé for some time.

"We are happy to finally have Lionel on our books," Meyer said.

"We have been looking to secure his services for a while now and I am very pleased with the news.

"Lionel will play an important role in our plans for the next couple of years."
