Cape Town - Stormers coach Allister Coetzee confirmed on Wednesday he was not in the running for the Springbok coaching job.
Coetzee was supposedly on a shortlist of possible candidates compiled by South African Rugby Union (SARU), including Ireland forwards coach Gert Smal and Blue Bulls rugby director Heyneke Meyer.
However, Coetzee told the Eyewitness News website he rather wants to focus on his current job at the Cape-based franchise.
“Allister Coetzee is focusing on the Stormers. [I am] definitely not involved or in the run in for the Bok job... and I'm sure whoever gets the job would be a good candidate," he said.
He did, however, acknowledge that he would not turn the opportunity down if it arrives in future.
"Every coach aspires to get involved at national level. I've been involved there, [but] if it's not your time, it's not your time," he said.
The Stormers start their Super Rugby preparations with a friendly against neighbours Boland in Wellington on Saturday.
The match will be the first of four pre-season outings for the Stormers before the Super Rugby season kicks off next month. They will play the Lions and the Cheetahs in a tri-series at the end of the month and will finish their pre-season preparations with a game against the EP Kings on February 11.
