Coetzee: Life after Rassie

Cape Town - While admitting that they will miss the technical expertise of Rassie Erasmus, Stormers coach Allister Coetzee says they must "get on with it and focus on their Super Rugby campaign".

Sport24 reported on Monday that Erasmus resigned as senior professional coach at the Western Province Rugby Union.

"There are a number of new opportunities that have surfaced at a higher level," Erasmus said in a statement on Tuesday.

However, according to the Keo.co.za website, there is reason to believe that there were other reasons for Erasmus's sudden departure. After clashing with amateur administrators one too many times, he decided that enough was enough and quit his post.

Erasmus is widely regarded as one of the best minds in the game and to lose all that technical knowledge and savvy could prove costly to the union.

Coetzee, who's currently in Hermanus on a training camp with the team, tried to suggest that it will be business as usual when the Super Rugby tournament starts next month. He did, however, admit they will miss Erasmus.

"We are a very settled group of players and I believe that this training camp has been very successful," said Coetzee.

"We want to focus on the Super Rugby campaign, we have to get on with it.

"Rassie’s a good friend, and as a colleague he will be missed. I’m sure that any union would miss a coach of his calibre. Having said that, we have a job to do."
