Cheetahs pick Rhule for 7sPL

Johannesburg - The Cheetahs have included new Springbok call-up Raymond Rhule in their squad for the inaugural NBM 7s Premier League (7sPL) tournament in George next month.

The tournament, which included a side from Kaizer Chiefs and various corporate teams, will battle it out for the R1m first prize.

Springbok fans have the opportunity to see Rhule in action at Outeniqua Park along with team-mates Willie le Roux, Ryno Benjamin, Boom Prinsloo, Sarel Pretorius and new recruit Johann Sadie.

The tournament features some of the world's best sevens and 15-man players, as well as athletes from other sporting codes.

South African sevens icons Fabian Juries, Stefan Basson, Mzwandile Stick and Brent Russell will play alongside and against international stars like Zar Lawrence of New Zealand, Shane Williams of Wales and Englishman Ben Gollings.

The Lions will also travel to George with a number of Super Rugby players, with the likes of Derick Minnie, Andries Coetzee and Ruan Combrinck part of the Johannesburg side's squad.

Tournament promoter Willem Strauss said the organisers were putting together final touches, including off-field entertainment for spectators.

“This is going to be a fantastic mix of teams, styles, brands and sporting icons,” Strauss added.

“We are expecting great crowds and with rock star Nicholis Louw also part of the entertainment, fun will be had by everyone.”

The Sharks, Blue Bulls, Western Province and Kaizer Chiefs are expected to name their teams later this week.

Cheetahs squad:

Ryno Benjamin, Robbie van Schalkwyk, Marnus Schoeman, Torsten van Jaarsveld, Leon Karemaker, Boom Prinsloo, Pieter van Zyl, Sarel Pretorius, Willie le Roux, Riaan Smit, Barry Geel, Cameron Jacobs, Raymond Rhule, Philip Burger, Kevin Luiters and Johann Sadie.
