Nokia connects with CT Tens

Cape Town - Nokia has on Wednesday been unveiled as the headline sponsor of the forthcoming Cape Town Tens Rugby event. Nokia’s sponsorship includes naming rights and the event will now be called the Nokia Cape Town Tens.

Launched in 2009 by rugby legends Bob Skinstad and Robbie Fleck, the Nokia Cape Town Tens is the biggest 10-a-side tournament in world rugby. The Nokia Cape Town Tens is a unique sports lifestyle event that provides a winning formula of rugby, sunshine, banter, fun and live entertainment to more than 2 000 players and 12 000 spectators over two days.

As part of its Tens sponsorship, Nokia will be providing a number of unique event enhancements including photo booths, phone charging services and free Wi-Fi.

“The Tens is a fantastic event that will provide another way for us to showcase our great products to a wide and varied consumer base. We are always trying to offer people technology that seamlessly fits into their lifestyle, and an event like the Tens enables us to do this,” says Justin Maier, ?Head of Marketing, Nokia South and East Africa.

Bob Skinstad adds: “Nokia is a huge global brand and for them to associate with us is a massive endorsement of the growing popularity of Tens rugby in South Africa. The Nokia Cape Town Tens is a unique sport and entertainment lifestyle event that offers some great experiences on and off the field, for players and spectators alike. Nokia’s involvement means we can now take the event experience to another level.”

The 2014 edition of the Nokia Cape Town Tens event will take place at Hamilton’s Rugby Club, on Friday, February 7 and Saturday, February 8 with more than 90 teams taking part. The event will feature live entertainment, rugby development clinics, Springbok and international legends and South Africa’s biggest beer tent. The Nokia Cape Town Tens was recently short-listed as a finalist in the Best Live Experience category of the forthcoming Discovery Sports Industry Awards.
