Bulls' Cronjé off to the Lions

2012-11-20 17:51

Pretoria - Bulls utility back Lionel Cronjé has been released from his contract to take up an opportunity with their neighbours, the Lions.

According to the website, the deal is of such a nature that the Bulls can recall Cronjé for Super Rugby duty if they have an injury crisis.

Cronjé, who mainly plays flyhalf or fullback, was not named in the Bulls 53-man squad on Tuesday, and coach Frans Ludeke said it was simply a case of looking after the player's welfare.

“It’s a way to ensure he has more time on the field. We have released him for the good of his career,” said Ludeke.

Cronjé joined the Bulls from Western Province eat the end of 2011.

Amazing how the Lions are still able to get players even if not in super 15, something must be going right there! GO LIONS!!!

It's got more to do with what's going wrong at the Bulls.

Interesting reading material, this how certain provimces and Managers operate I found in a News Paper this morning:Sport24 het juis betroubaar verneem dat lede van die Leeus-afrigtingspan glo erg ontevrede was met Jantjies omdat hy na bewering ’n dag voor sy span se nederlaag hier in die Curriebeker-halfeindronde teen die Westelike Provinsie in die geheim met die WP-breier, Allister Coetzee, vergader het.

I don't know why Ludeke signed Cronje. He lured him with a lucrative offer and then made him get splinters on his ass for 2 years.. Lionel is talented. He was the best Flyhalf at the u20 JWC in Japan 2009. To think that he played second fiddle to Louis Fouche is ridiculous really. He will get a good run out at the lions

Agreed! Cronje had the potential to be more of an allround flyhalf, but then was never developed further, both by the Stormers/WP and Bulls coaches. Louis Fouche kicks very well, that's about it, very predictable and doesn't offer anything else.

The 'windgat' is strong in that one.

Dorfling, then Louis Fouche is perfect for Bulls rugby.

Hahahaha, someone wants to rather play at the Lions with it's coach controversies and no S15, than stay at the Bulls. And that tells you everything you need to know about the Bulls.

Is Meisiekind really back in the Bulls Squad ? I thought he f*cked off to Japan. When will all coaches realize that he's useless ?

      chrisin.oz.1 - 2012-11-21 00:26

Looks like Japan realised that. I don't think anyone behind the mullet-gordyn will ever realise that.

Guys. It is all about playing time, any player will rather play second string rugby than none at all. What i understand is, the Bulls can still use him which tells me they are looking at his playing interest!

How bad do you have to be if you're not named in a 53-man squad? A Cape reject and the Bulls are better of without him.
