Cape Town - Springbok and Saracens hooker Schalk Brits has been shortlisted for the 2014 European Player of the Year award, the SA Rugbymag website reports.

The 32-year-old Brits, who has played five Tests for the Springboks, is one of three representatives from the English club, including Namibian flank Jacques Burger and wing Chris Ashton.

There are also two players from European champions Toulon - flyhalf Jonny Wilkinson and flank Steffon Armitage.

Wilkinson won the award last year following Toulon's Heineken Cup success in Dublin over Clermont.

Toulon will face Saracens in the Heineken Cup final at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium on May 24.
