Bolla in Stormers' plans

2011-11-22 08:00

Cape Town - Forgotten Springbok and Stormers scrumhalf Bolla Conradie has been included in their plans ahead of next year's Super Rugby competition.

Die Burger newspaper reports that the Cape side started their preparations for next year's competition on Monday.

Conradie, hooker Clemen Lewis and flyhalf Elgar Watts, are the Boland players in coach Allister Coetzee's pre-season plans. All three played pivotal roles in helping Boland claim the Currie Cup First Division title this year.

However, Watts will only be available in February after undergoing a shoulder operation. "Elgar will only be ready to play in early February. The decision to let him undergo an operation was made for his own good in the long term," Eugene Eloff, Boland's coach said.

Watts will realistically only be ready for the Stormers' last pre-season game against the Eastern Province Kings on 11 February.

He was in Coetzee's plans last season but poor goal-kicking cost him a place in the squad. But Watts has since improved markedly and had a great season with the victorious Boland side, boasting an 80% goal-kicking ratio in the First Division.

The Stormers will start their pre-season matches in late January with clashes against the Lions and the Sharks at home in the Neo Africa Tri-Series, which will be followed by two friendly encounters against the EP Kings and Boland.

Stormers' pre-season programme:

Stormers v Lions, 27 January, Newlands (Neo Africa Tri-Series)
Stormers v Sharks, 4 February, Newlands (Neo Africa Tri-Series)
EP Kings v Stormers, 11 February, Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, Port Elizabeth
Boland v Stormers, Boland Stadium, Wellington (Date to be confirmed)

      Jed - 2011-11-22 10:35

We still should make the play-offs, even with this set back. The Bulls? ummmmm I think not. I reckon they will be pushing the top 10 this season , better than that I think not.

      BlouMasjien - 2011-11-22 10:42

WTF!!! Think it is time for Stormers and WP Rugby supporters took to the streets and protested outside Newlands at the way rugby is being run in this province and franchise. Time Coetzee went!!! Time we learnt from English Premiership fans and voice our disgust and disapproval of situation.

Whahahahahahahahahah...Whahahahahahahahahah...Whahahahahahahahahah....Whahahahahahahahahah...Whahahahahahahahahah..Whahahahahahahahahah...histerical laugh... I'm a WP / Stormers supporter (old school...was born in the Cape) The Blue Bulls play exiting youngsters and have won 4 Curry Cup trophies since 2002, shared the trophy in 2006 and won 3 Super Rugby championships. WP plays has-beens and let their young guns move to other franchises. The last Curry Cup win for WP was in 2001. Need to say moreā€¦

      Pieter - 2011-11-22 17:04

@Eugene No you don't Bulls are the best

  • Andrew - 2011-11-22 10:17

If anyone actually watched the first division games you would know he is in a purple patch of form. I just hope that Coetzee doesn't use Bolla instead of someone like Nic Groom, he should be there as bench cover and as a mentor.

  • Ansie - 2011-11-22 10:19

Is die Stormers/WP so in die moeilikheid. Hulle hoop seker nie nuwe seisoen vir Super 15 en Curriebeker breek nie aan nie. HieHieHie

  • Deon - 2011-11-22 10:19
