Bok props extend Bulls stay

2013-01-15 17:00

Johannesburg - Springbok front rowers Dean Greyling and Werner Kruger have extended their contracts with the Bulls until the end of the 2015 season, the Pretoria union announced on Tuesday.

"It is no secret that high quality props are hard to keep in the country and to have two of them agreeing to an extension of three years at the same time is wonderful news, not only to the Bulls, but also to South Africa," said Bulls head coach Frans Ludeke.

"Both Werner and Dean have their best years in their positions still ahead of them and to know that they will be playing those in South Africa, and more particularly Pretoria, is awesome news for all concerned."

Greyling, 27, has excelled for the Bulls in the junior and senior ranks, playing 30 Super Rugby matches and 31 Currie Cup games. He has also represented the Boks in three Test matches so far in his career.

Kruger, 28, who also joined the Bulls straight out of school, has become one of the most experienced tightheads in the team's history, representing the Pretoria side in 75 Super Rugby clashes and 79 Currie Cup games. His made his debut for the Springboks in 2011 and has played four Tests for the national side.

Ludeke expected both players to take on senior roles in the squad.

"Both joined as juniors and have been in the system for a long time now," he said.

"They have embraced and supported the work ethic and culture within the squad and I expect both to become strong senior players in the years to come."

The kick-off their Suepr Rugby campaign with a home clash against arch-rivals, the Stormers, on February 22.

      Kruger is very over rated.

Always good news to have a few experienced props in ones country. especially in both tight head and loose head position. Hope coaches know by now that one player cannot play both decently!!

Hope Dean stays just with the bulls and never get a springbok call up.

GO Dean, groot yster- jou beste le' voor, die blou, groen en goud!!!!!!!

That is a tad unfair, though I will say he does play much better for the Bulls than he does for the boks.

The headline should read "Bulls props extend stay" not Bok props. They've been tried & found out to be terrible scrummagers. Can't bind properly and can't stay up for longer than a second.Greyling got lucky with Coenie's neck injuries and then disgraced himself by being sent off in the McCaw incident before anything. And Werner Kruger is it out his depth completely.

      Cant argue with that.

      chrisin.oz.1 - 2013-01-15 23:44

But sean, you should know by now that for Bulls24, Bulls = Boks. Maak al die Bulle Bokke of hoe sing hulle?

Very good news for Weepee bound to get a yellow card for dirty play....again!

  • suidlander.vanwyk - 2013-01-15 18:00

Yey, more penalties and more boxing or may be kickboxing or kungfu or wrestling

      chrisin.oz.1 - 2013-01-15 23:45

Are you talking about the things that will happen in that ugly white bubble in PE, because the team stationed there certainly can't play rugby?

  • gareth.flook - 2013-01-15 18:43

Ha ha well that's good news for other teams- arguably the biggest flops to have ever played in the prop position for S.A. And never pose a threat to opposition

  • chrisin.oz.1 - 2013-01-15 23:01

Who are these two clowns and when did they get a Bok cap? I vaguely remember Macguyver getting binned in a Bok jersey, yes, but who is the other one? They obviously did not make much of an impression.

      craven.luyt - 2013-01-16 09:11

      And Etsebeth? Blinkers much

      chrisin.oz.1 - 2013-01-16 22:31

I also remember Etzebeth getting cited and suspended (not binned). But I also remember everything else he has done. I can't say the same about Richard Dean Anderson MacGuyver Greyling. His parents are a couple of fruitcakes.

Grate; more yellow carts for the bulls and more points for the Stormers and don't even dare to through punches you thugs

      chrisin.oz.1 - 2013-01-16 06:10

Wow!! I don't like to pull someone up for spelling, because that is not why we are here. But, DAMN you need to learn how to spell. PS: I agree with what you are saying.

Great news. The bulls to continue with a weak scrum.

I'm a Bull supporter, and they are definitely the worst I ever seen. Jaco Engels from the Kings is better than both of them.
