Bok flank 'Flo' in hot water

Cape Town - Springbok flank Francois Louw could face suspension after he was sent off for punching in an English Premiership game over the weekend.

Louw, playing for Bath, received a red card against Leicester on Saturday and will face an RFU disciplinary hearing on Tuesday.

According to the Rugby365 website, Louw is not the only player in trouble. His team-mates Matt Banahan and Lee Mears will also attend the hearing after indiscretions in the stormy encounter at Welford Road, which Leicester won 17-12.

Banahan got his marching orders for a dangerous tackle, whilst Mears is facing the same charge as Louw.

Leicester will have their own representative at the hearing with Brett Deacon also sent off for striking an opponent. He has already been suspended from playing by his club for one week following an internal disciplinary hearing.

The 27-year-old Louw was impressive for the Springboks on their recent European tour, playing a vital role in helping his country claim three successive wins over Ireland, Scotland and England.

Who cares? Whatever ban he is given will be enforced while he is playing during the English Premiership season. It's unlikely to affect his participation in any Springbok related matches...the only possible ramifications will be positive as he'll be better rested!

The TMO was dishing out cards willy nilly in this game. Everything looks worse on the replay. TMO was being a bit of a headmaster in the game. Bath were looking like beating the Tigers. I think a red card is enough for Flo. This referral system is great for checking for forward passes. Not so sure about the red cards being issued from upstairs. Its a bit like playing God. Players will have to be squeaky clean from now on.

I actually watched the match and saw the incident in question... I would like to firstly say, for a South African publication, you guys at Sport24 can learn a thing or 2 from the Aussies by sticking up for our players especially when these incidents are being wrongly officiated. Flo held the guy to the ground and I think it didn't warrant the red card but that shouls be enough punishment. Flo is a great player, the Leceister player should be banned for a longer period

      Flemstone - 2012-12-04 17:56

That TMO was going nuts dishing out cards.

SA media shows no loyalty whatsoever - it is about numbers and whatever sensational story will sell. Sad but true.

The Donald incident was the worst. All he did was throw some girly slaps. Next thing you hear the ref say he was throwing punches. The TMO said its because he had two go's, so its a red card. Donalds reaction will be remembered for a long time. "Are you being serious?"

Blind "loyalty" is pointless, guys, but I agree that the ref and TMO were totally over the top in this match. And I think Donald got a yellow, not a red, Flem.

So Flo pulled a Hore... Where are all the bitter, holier than thou hypocrites now!

      Owentjie - 2012-12-04 19:23

Didnt see it, but you re saying he came from behind and knocked someone out?

      Owentjie - 2012-12-04 19:55

Just saw it, and " You're such and idiot! The End!" seems appropriate....

      Jimmy NZ - 2012-12-04 21:46

That's right, everybody else is to blame! One-eyed opinions aye!

      mark.knight.14418 - 2012-12-06 01:15

Jimmy, he was exonerated at the hearing. He didn't swing a roundhouse from behind a defenceless player. In short, no, he did not "pull a Hore". But that doesn't matter in your sad little world, does it?

Did you actually see the incident, there was no punching, get your facts straight!

      mark.knight.14418 - 2012-12-06 01:21

Well said Justin, except that the card was totally undeserved. The TJ is an incompetent idiot.
