VIDEO: The most bizarre 'own try' you will ever see!
A bizarre scene unfolded in the opening quarter of the National Rugby Championship clash between the North Harbour Rays and the Sydney Stars on Thursday.
The Stars were attacking the Rays' line when Rays prop Mitch Lewis ripped the ball from Sydney hooker James Willan and placed it back over his own line... and conceded a try!
When the incident was referred to TMO Michael Blair, he mistook the attacking team with the defending team and instead of playing on or awarding a 5m scrum, he gave a try.
Lewis looked gobsmacked and Fox Sports commentators Sean Maloney and Stephen Hoiles could only laugh - hysterically.
According to reports, Blair realised his blunder moments after the next kick-off, which meant it couldn’t be undone.
