Cape Town - The 2018 Stor-Age Old Boys Tens (OBX) kicks off at Stor-Age Pirates Rugby Club in Johannesburg on November 9, where over 800 players will compete in the much-loved games of 10-a-side rugby and netball.
The Stor-Age OBX, now in its fifth year, has become one of the highlights on the Johannesburg sporting calendar.
Each year an increasing amount of teams get involved, attracted by the excitement, competitiveness and the festival atmosphere that OBX brings.
Comments Chris Oosthuizen, spokesperson for Stor-Age Self Storage, “OBX 2018 is going to be even bigger than last year, with a record number of teams signing up to battle it out on the field and on the court. The event offers a wonderful opportunity for local communities to come together, to celebrate through sport and to raise money for a worthy cause at the same time. It’s not only about the sports teams, as the event is well-attended by families and friends of those competing to join in the festivities through various activities. It’s a great atmosphere, and we are proud to be involved as a sponsor.’’
The long-standing relationship between OBX and Stor-Age Self Storage has allowed the event to grow year after year. Comments Marcel Malherbe, OBX Tournament Director, “Stor-Age are more than just sponsors - they are friends, supporters and, most importantly, believers in OBX and its ideals. It’s very hard to find a sponsor that matches your organisational ethos and the Stor-Age/OBX relationship represents what can be done if corporate South Africa engages in nation building.”
Stor-Age OBX aims to transform education in South Africa by elevating the standards of education in previously disadvantaged communities, which they are achieving by contributing to the improvement of educational opportunities throughout the country. ‘’This year, the aim is to raise over R700 000 at OBX 2018,’’ adds Malherbe.
The two-day tournament is made possible by a group of dedicated team members and their sponsors. Spectators and players alike can expect a weekend of good-spirited rivalry and exciting sporting action.
In 2019, Stor-Age OBX will be introducing a fully-fledged ladies rugby division.
