There’s something incredibly moving about the roaring sound of Nkosi Sikelel' iAfrika prior to any rugby match. From the supporters on the stands to the players on the field, nothing binds a sea of green-and-gold jerseys quite like the anthem. But have you ever thought about what goes through the minds of the Springboks when they stand arm in arm?
“When we are about to sing you can see us shifting and pulling each other tighter,” says Springbok captain Siya Kolisi. For the guys on the field, “united we shall stand in South Africa our land” clearly carries across a deeper message and ignites something in them before a game.
