Top 5 must-watch weekend sporting events

Cape Town - It's the weekend!

But the sporting world never sleeps, so hang on tight and be sure to watch these FIVE events (in no particular order)!

1. ENGAND V PROTEAS, 2ND TEST

The Proteas will want to set something straight in the second Test against England at Trent Bridge - they're still a side to be reckoned with.

Proteas skipper Faf du Plessis is back and although we're without speedster Kagiso Rabada, the Proteas will look to square the series in Nottingham after losing the first Test at Lord's.

Play starts at 12:00 SA time with the Proteas hopefully on top!

2. BRITISH GRAND PRIX

Start your engines!

The Formula One circus roars into Silverstone this weekend with all eyes on the battle between Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel.

Vettel will be looking to extend his lead in the drivers championship standings, while Hamilton is favourite to win at home.

And let's not overlook the silent but deadly Valtteri Bottas...

3. WIMBLEDON

It's crunch time at the All England Club!

Venus Williams is on the verge of making history as she takes on Garbine Muguruza in the women's final.

While over for the men's, Roger Federer is hot favourite to secure his eighth title but Marin Cilic stands in his way...

4. TOUR DE FRANCE

This weekend will be important for defending champion Chris Froome in the Tour de France.

The Briton will need to make some massive strides if he is stop Fabio Aru and Romain Bardet from breathing down his neck for the coveted yellow jersey.

5. SUPER RUGBY EXTRAVAGANZA!

The Super Rugby season is almost at a close, as we go into the final weekend of the regular season.

Round 17 kicks into action clashes to keep you entertained Friday and Saturday.

The Stormers travel to the Highveld to take on the Bulls in their SA derby on Saturday (kick-off is at 15:05). While over in Durban, the Sharks will host the unstoppable Lions on Saturday (kick-off is at 17:15).

Who will reign supreme? Will we see any upsets? All these questions and more will be answered on Sport24...
