Top 4 must-watch weekend sporting events

Cape Town - It's the weekend!

But the sporting world never sleeps, so hang on tight and be sure to watch these FOUR events!

1. IAAF Diamond League

We're in Paris for the seventh leg of the IAAF Diamond League.

Six South Africans will be on the track, notably our golden girl Caster Semenya running in the 800m (21:42 SA time).

Commonwealth Games 100m champion Akani Simbine will also be in the field (21:52 SA time).

Antonio Alkana (110m hurdles heats at 19:17 SA time and final at 20:53 SA time), Henricho Bruintjies, Thando Roto (100m 'B' men - 19:35 SA time), and Luxolo Adams (200m men - 20:30 SA time).

2. Super Rugby

Round 17 of the Super Rugby action gets under way.

On Saturday, Highlanders take on the Chiefs (09:35 SA time), the Brumbies host the Hurricanes (11:45 SA time).

The Bulls are in Singapore, as they take on the Sunwolves (13:55 SA time) and then we're in South Africa for the much-anticipated SA derby between the Sharks and Lions (17:15).

We end off the weekend with the Jaguares hosting the Stormers in Buenos Aires (19:40 SA time).

3. Austrian Grand Prix

The Formula One circus roars into Austria!

Defending world champion Lewis Hamilton looks to extend his lead over rival Sebastian Vettel of Ferrari.

Or will Valtteri Bottas come from behind to defend his Austrian title?

The main race is set to get under way on Sunday in Spielberg (15:10 SA time).

4. Soccer World Cup

We're down to the last 16 in Russia!

Things are heater up (if they weren't hot already) and this weekend's fixtures will keep you glued to your screen. 

On Saturday, France take on the Argentina (16:00 SA time) and the Uruguay battle against Portugal (20:00 SA time).

On Sunday, 2010 World Cup champions Spain play hosts Russia (16:00 SA time) and Croatia look to defeat Denmark (20:00 SA time).

Who will reign supreme? Will we see any upsets? All these questions and more will be answered on Sport24...
