Virat Kohli

THE TIME KOHLI WASN'T SELECTED

Indian cricket legend, Virat Kohli, recently revealed in an Instagram chat the time he was not selected for a junior team because his father refused to pay a bribe.

“In state cricket ... sometimes things happen that are not exactly fair ... On one occasion, a certain someone did not play by the rules when it came to selection criteria. He told my father while I had the merit, a little extra (bribe) was needed to confirm my selection,” he added.

"My father said, ‘If you want to select Virat, then let it be purely on merit. I will give you nothing extra’,” said Kohli.

“I didn’t get selected. I cried a lot. I was broken. That incident taught me a lot. I realised that this world runs like this. If you want to progress, do something that no one else is doing. If I had to become successful, I needed to be extraordinary. And I had to achieve this purely through my own effort and hard work,” Kohli recalled.

MYTWOCENTS VERDICT: With Kohli pretty much ruling Indian cricket these days, we can't help wondering if he has enacted any retribution on that "certain someone".

FEEL GOOD STORY OF THE DAY

This one comes from the Red Devils as young Max Taylor has recently been given a new contract at Manchester United, just a few months after beating testicular cancer. Taylor was diagnosed in November 2018 and went through an intensive course of chemotherapy. Taylor has yet to make a first team appearance despite being on the bench for a Europa League tie.

MYTWOCENTS VERDICT: We will be looking out for that name in the future.

FURY-WILDER III SET FOR THIS YEAR AT NEUTRAL VENUE

Promoter, Bob Arum, has announced that the Tyson Fury-Deontay Wilder trilogy fight will take place sometime in 2020 but not in the UK or USA. While the date and venue have yet to be determined, the fight will take place at a neutral venue. The fight had originally been scheduled for July but was postponed due to Covid-19.

MYTWOCENTS VERDICT: With the UK or USA ruled out, we speculate the fight will be held in the UAE where big money is being spent to raise its status as a major sporting host.
