CONOR MCGREGOR ACCEPTS OSCAR

No not THAT Oscar ... nor that Oscar either! UFC star Conor McGregor has, over Twitter, accepted a challenge from former boxing champ (now promoter) Oscar de la Hoya for a fight (boxing rules). De la Hoya called out McGregor saying that he would knock the Irishman out within 2 rounds ... even at the age of 47, to which McGregor responded "challenge accepted".

MYTWOCENTS VERDICT: It's not clear whether this will actually translate into a fight but we think it's a BAD IDEA on so many levels. 1) Would anyone seriously be interested in watching this? I certainly wouldn't. 2) Boxing great Floyd Mayweather schooled McGregor but it took him 10 rounds ... what makes De La Hoya think he could get it done in 2?? 3) Have you seen the state of De La Hoya  of late? He is in no shape to take on someone like McGregor even though boxing is extremely specialised. 4) Finally, Conor needs to stick to what made him a star ... MMA. He still has so much to offer and so much to achieve in a very crowded division. Don't waste time getting sidetracked by fighting has-beens like De La Hoya.

PREMIER LEAGUE RELEGATION BATTLE OFF THE PITCH

We recently reported that 6 EPL teams are supposedly against the Premier League restarting and are in favour of the season being cancelled with relegation taken off the table. Unsurprisingly, those 6 teams are all relegation candidates. With the massive amount of money available in the Premier League we can see why they will do anything to stay. The Premier League has responded by saying that if the season is cancelled, those currently in the drop zone will get relegated.

MYTWOCENTS VERDICT: A strong response by the Premier League. Protection against relegation would be unfair on the teams seeking promotion from the Championship. Apparently a majority vote of 14 clubs out of 20 is required in order to get approval for the season to be completed. Those six clubs need to get with the program.

MAHARAJ PROTEAS AMBITIONS PREMATURE

Keshav Maharaj has put his name in the hat to become the next Proteas test captain. This after CSA director Graeme Smith opened the position by stating that current interim captain, Quinton de Kock, would not be Test captain.

MYTWOCENTS VERDICT: While ambition is always commendable, we don't see Maharaj as being even close to an option. Firstly, spinners are rarely made captain because they are often not guaranteed a place in the team, as pitch conditions (particularly in South Africa) often advocate for an all-seam attack. Secondly, we have rarely seen much leadership from Maharaj. There have been times when a level head has been required at the crease and Maharaj has ignored team instructions and swung for the fences. Stick to improving your game Kesh!
