Daily sports briefs | IPL cancellation to hit SA players hard, Amazon to win naming rights to Spurs stadium  - and more!

UNINSURED IPL TO HIT SA PLAYERS HARD?

Wednesday's news that the IPL had been postponed indefinitely was quickly followed by reports that the league is not insured against a pandemic and that IF it is cancelled, players will miss out on their salaries. This would be pretty bad news for the likes of Chris Morris, who stands to make R20m this season from the IPL alone. Also in the firing line, AB de Villiers, Dale Steyn and David Miller.

MYTWOCENTS VERDICT: While none of the above mentioned players are struggling for cash, we hope that the organisers somehow find a way to get the tournament played.

WHERE ARE BISMARCK, BAKKIES AND SCHALK?

Last week we voiced our disapproval at the shocking omission of the Springbok 2007 World Cup winning team and 2009 Bok team from a list of the top 10 best national sides of the decade. Well, this week we had to chuckle at the latest list of "Top 10 Hard Men of Rugby". Admittedly, quite a juvenile exercise, but Stuart Barnes somehow omitted Bakkies Botha in favour of Jonny Wilkinson ... you couldn't make this up!! Brave man!

MYTWOCENTS VERDICT: While we are at it ... how about Bismarck du Plessis? Or Schalk Burger jnr who played most of a test against Scotland with a broken neck? Also missing from "the list" ... Duane "Thor" Vermeulen, the late great Ruben Kruger, Uli Schmidt and Henry Honnibal.

AMAZON SET TO WIN NAMING RIGHTS FOR SPURS STADIUM

Amazon appear to emerge from a jungle of competitors, including Nike, in the race to win naming rights for Tottenham Hotspur's new

MYTWOCENTS VERDICT: A great deal for Spurs ... but we can't help but ask ... will they deliver?

NO FANS AT STADIUMS UNTIL 2021?

Los Angeles mayor Eric Garcetti has said that large gatherings at public events such as sports could be banned until 2021 in LA. This may sound shocking to some but we expect this to become the blue print around the world for the rest of this year.

MYTWOCENTS VERDICT: Best we start getting used to watching sports with empty stadiums.
